The Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) is a non-profit educational entity and is a division of the University of Arkansas System. The Safe School Initiative within CJI was established to provide education, training, resources, and technical assistance to all professionals working in school safety. The Staying Power: Dropout Prevention Resource Database and Toolkit Project is an initiative of the Safe School Initiative Division funded by a Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation grant. This project has developed a resource database of 100 proven effective dropout prevention programs from across the nation. In addition to this database, a 10-minute dropout prevention video, templates and dropout fact sheets can be found on its website, www.arsafeschools.com. This information is being distributed to Arkansas schools to assist with their dropout prevention programming.

University of the Ozarks was founded in 1834 by Cumberland Presbyterians as Cane Hill Schoolat Cane Hill, Ark., located in Northwest Arkansas. In 1891, Cane Hill College closed operations and its successor, Arkansas Cumberland College, was established in Clarksville, Ark. In 1920, the name was changed to The College of the Ozarks, and in 1987 the school was renamed to University of the Ozarks.
