2010 Conference Highlights

The 2010 EAST Conference was a success consisting of 185 EAST programs and 17 business and educational exhibitor booths. In the span of three days 58 breakout sessions were attended, collaboration took place and many memories were made.

Award: The winning design is displayed on everything for the Conference including the website, all printed materials, EAST gear, event shirts, and even the Awards Banquet Stage. This student was also awarded a plaque with the design etched into the crystal.

Application Showcase Competitions
Audubon Arkansas’ Natural Leader Showcase Winners
Award: Winners received art medallions designed by artist Jann Greenland and an invitation to the Audubon Center for a field day.
Mountain Pine High School EAST “ Natural Leader 2010 - Outstanding Project” for their work in documenting and monitoring Bird Island on Lake Ouachita and working for its designation as an internationally recognized Important Bird Area (IBA).
Lonoke Middle School EAST “Natural Leader 2010 – Nature Documentary” for their work in restoring the habitat of Railroad Prairie and the prairie documentary with research that included historic, scientific and community efforts.
Greenland High School as “Natural Leader School 2010” for its EAST Program’s efforts and success in building rain gardens and bird-bee-butterfly gardens and for their leadership in monitoring Ward’s Slough, a tributary of West Fork of the White River.
Audubon Arkansas’ Talkin’ Trash Video Showcase Winners
Award: Winners received art medallions designed by artist Jann Greenland and an invitation to the Audubon Center for a field day.
Dardanelle High School EAST as “Talkin’ Trash Documentary Film – 2010” for their efforts to dramatize the impact of litter on communities and habitat. Dardanelle piloted the 24/7 Challenge in 2008-9 for Audubon and AR State Parks.
Watson Chapel High School EAST for “Natural Leader – Outstanding Student” - WCHS student William Blair was selected for his efforts to monitor Byrd Lake Natural Heritage Area and to engage other students and community members in its stewardship.
CAST’s Proposal Competition Winner
Award: CAST staff will visit the winning school and provide use of the University of Arkansas’ Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).

Student's Choice Award
The 2010 Student's Choice Award winning program is Southwood High School. This program was awarded with a plaque and will present the welcome at the 2011 Conference Opening Plenary.
EAST Alumni Association "Golden E"
The second annual "Golden E" award was presented to Wickes High School. This award was given in lieu of their challenges in preparing for the EAST Conference and still maintaining a positive attitude. This golden E will be signed and dated by their program and represented at their high school until the 2011 EAST Conference where they will pass down the award to the next deserving school.
